Do you know the child, awkward and gangly
Evolving to become a young lady --
Afraid, lonely, confused, frustrated --
Do you see these emotions?

So many expectations to meet
Every step of hers needs the best foot forward
Yet all she wants is to walk the boulevard of her own
No deadlines, no expectations, just her dreams.

Unyielding views from society block her way
Conforming thoughts of peers stunt her growth
Can't they see beyond the obvious
Can they wander into the territory of her heart?

Negative comments stemming from reluctance to conform
Looks down on her, due to different orientation
She smiles
And laughs
"What do you want?" she silently pleads.

She is a just her, through and through
A young lady, gentle and loving in her own way
All she wants is
A little acceptance
Just the way she is.
